Born in Kingston, Stafford Schliefer is a self-taught artist who has been painting since he was 28. He first exhibited his work along hotel strips in Kingston and Montego Bay. Art critics noticed and soon his work found better accommodation. He received a High Commendation Award from the Institute of Jamaica.
His work engages in a multiplicity of themes, and he uses a variety of media, acrylics, oils, watercolour, mixed-media collages and graphite drawings. More than one prime minister have selected his work as official gifts to prominent guests to the island, including the late Pope John Paul and former South African President Nelson Mandela. Schliefer lives and works in Irish Town, Jamaica.
