Born in Kingston, raised in Claremont, St. Ann, Ewan McAnuff received his early education at Claremont All Age School. He then attended Ocho Rios Secondary School where he met his first Art tutor, Frank Brown, who was to be a great inspiration to young McAnuff. With Frank Brown's encouragement and guidance, McAnuff entered the Jamaica School of Art (now Edna Manley School for the Visual and Performing Arts) after completing secondary school. He graduated in 1984. McAnuff sees himself as an impressionistic artist, uses oil on canvas as his medium and utilizes a wide range of subtle colours to create in his paintings a soft, sensitive quality. His paintings are a synthesis of portraits, landscapes and street scenes and. although subtle, often carry a hint of social commentary.
