UWI, Mona should have a Faculty of the Creative Arts

Former Prime Minister P J Patterson says it’s time for  The University of the West Indies, Mona to create a Faculty of the Creative Arts, with linkages to the Faculty of Humanities. Patterson said the creative economy is a significant part of global GDP, accounting for 6.1 per cent. “It earned more than the services in finance, business, insurance and multifaceted social sciences department,” said Patterson.

That sector brought in US$2.2 billion in 2022 and three per cent of direct and indirect employment, according to the Gleaner. “To achieve sustainable development, which is our purpose, we must drive our entrepreneurial and creative skills, which are critical and indispensible elements in our learning as a people,” said the former Prime Minister.
