AKEEM SMITH’S TRAVELLING EXHIBITION

Until June 28, Artist and stylist Akeem Smith is exhibiting his first major solo presentation Akeem Smith: No Gyal Can Test at Red Bull Art New York. His project focuses on his experience growing up in New York City and Jamaica in the 1990s, exploring black style and the vibrant dancehall scene of that period and early 2000s. The exhibition includes immersive video installations and large scale sculptures from the remnants of demolished structures from Smith’s childhood neighbourhood of Waterhouse in Kingston, Jamaica. The show is open to the public and moves to Red Bull Art Detroit next.
