Dunkley Exhibition for Miami

An exhibition entitled John Dunkley: Neither Day Nor Night opens May 26th 2017 and runs to January 2018 at the Perez Art Museum in Miami. There will be a private Cocktail Reception on May 25th 2017 in honour of the show's opening.

Neither Day Nor Night includes Dunkley's paintings from the 1930s and '40s, along with a smaller selection of carved-wood and stone sculptures. He is considered one of Jamaica's most historical artists.

The show's promotion says: "Dunkley's paintings are defined by their distinctive dark palette, detailed imagery-often landscapes-- and psychologically suggestive underpinnings. His intimate sculptures reflect more figurative elements-people and animals-and offer insights into his unique iconography. "

His work is represented in the collection of the National Gallery of Jamaica and in many international private collections. But he has not been the focus of a solo exhibition since the 1970s nor has he been exhibited outside Jamaica.
